Aussie Masters hockey success

Fowler’s Group Director Jason Fowler, as organising chairman, has played a key role in the success of the Australian Men’s Masters Hockey Championships, held in Cairns recently – which included a $10 million economic benefit to the city.

More than 2,000 people, including players and supporters, booked out hotels, dined in local restaurants and took tours of the region during the championships. Jason believes the economic benefit to Cairns was more than $10 million.

“It’s the biggest hockey tournament in the country with 72 teams,”

“With that amount of people with money to spend, Cairns has had great benefit. “It was a great success, and we’ve received some really positive feedback.”

The Cairns Hockey facility also underwent a $250,000 upgrade to infrastructure and playing facilities to prepare for the event, which will be a long-term benefit to the association.

“While the investment in human resources, in-kind support and new infrastructure equates to a considerable sum, it was undertaken with a vision to provide a legacy and position Cairns as a competitive contender when it comes to pitching for the big, high profile hockey events.
